Mike Alexander is an independent rap artist from Peoria,IL.  Influence by the way Curtis Mayfield and Gil Scott-Heron delivered their urban political message in 70s and the more modern honest, hard core truth delivery of Kirk Franklin and Ice Cube, Mike Alexander has combined these styles into his very own spiritual, straight and the point lyrics that have a genuine message and will keep him current and relevant.

Considered a pioneer of rap in his hometown of Peoria, Mike began his music career in the early 80s.  He showcased his talent in local nightclubs and talent shows where he developed a fan base.  Much to his surprised, his lyrics and style made an impact on a much younger audience-his own children.  Upon returning home from work one day, Mike walked in to find his children "performing" and mimicking one of his rap performances and repeating his lyrics verbatim! This influenced him to form the group Daughter Brite and Soda Pop Mike, so named because of his bright daughter's ability to memorize lyrics within a few hours and his life growing up in Taft Homes Housing Projects as a poor kid and eventually a struggling young father who worked hard to care for his 3 children. Nikkia, Michael Jr., and young Marvin set the stage on fire! In 1989, their demo tapes landed into the lap of a record label who immediately signed them to a deal with CBS/Luke Records WTG Records. Their video performance of their feature song, Tuff Tuff Kids aired on MTV, BET and VH1.  They also toured the country whit the Nintendo World Tour. 

Mikes current song, Take the Guns from Your Sons was inspired by the devastating losses of young lives taken by gun violence.  His older brother was shot and killed at the age of 23 and even closer to home, his youngest son got shot 9 times in the chest and stomach with a 9mm. His current work, "My Testimony" is an album that shares how Mike copes with life's ups and downs including the tragic losses of not 1 but 2 sons.  Mike Alexander's ultimate goal is for people to healed, delivered, and set free. This work will inspire, motivate and enlighten every listener!
